Preparatory studies are included with each Sam Charles painting to ensure that the final piece is exactly what the client wants. Pencil sketches comprise most preparatory work, plus a unique study in oil paint which will accurately represent their final commissioned piece.
A study painting is an observational exercise to ascertain shape, colour, texture, and anatomy which all contributes to the larger fine painting. They comprise an anatomically accurate pencil sketch as the base overlayed with 2 layers of oil paint to accentuate the lines and energy of the subject.
